New Lines On Roadside

We were super stoked after completing the Big Banana because we thought the water was going to be good for more of the middle sections, but it rained so we did the Upper. Then the water held for a few days because the ground was so saturated. No worries if we can't do anything else we will hit the Roadside run again and again.

Todd on the second drop on the run, very quality rapid.

I will never get sick of this run it is awesome. It may seem kind of chill, and is when the water is low, but when there is some flow in there you have to be on your toes.

High water S-turn... It was a bit loose that day. I was the only one to give it a go.

Hit the big lefty. Hit it good.

Anyway for the New Lines part. Well with more water came bigger holes, and for the most part harder boofs. So we bombed through the run looking for and finding new flakes and lines. There were tons.

Ian on the bottom of the pillow rapid.

Some of the more noticeable were the drop below S-turn boofing it right of center giving you tons of hang time and a sick stomper. Ian ran left on S-turn at ridiculous high flows, that was new.

Me Hitting the hard right line at the huge boof, unnnh!! I like it like that.

Hard right on the second to last drop kicked you so huge that it became one of the best boofs of my life, and right on the last drop made it a bit less mank. Those are just a few examples to speak of.

We did that for a few days as the water dropped lower and lower. We finally got hungry and found ourselves a trail to scout some biggens below Tablazo bridge, ohh they looked good so we got some rest, our climbing gear gathered, and our huevos ready to go big. Photos by Ian and Lj!

The Upper Alsaseca

After a magical day on the B.B. run we took a day off to chill and see what Mexico had to offer and be lazy kids. Anyway back to kayaking. We had gone upstream last week to go scout the upper drops and ended up only running from a small bridge down, only seeing a drop named "The Pooper". Muy Feo walked that one. This time the water was high and we hiked up from km 5 instead of doing what the NBNer's did driving from Altatonga. It was kind of a crapy walk but we made it in under an hour to the big 3 falls.

Ian on the Rib with a good view of the stack up.

#1: an unrunnable 70-80 cascade into a wall.

#2: "The Rib" a 40 footer with a rock at the bottom one would bounce off.

#3: "Auto BOOF" a big slide that send you airborne off a 15 footer.

Ian, Todd, and Charlie ran the rib making it look pretty dam good to go. It was so cold that I was not feeling it at the time.

Todd with the cleanest line off the Rib. He nailed it like a carpenter hitting a 2by4 with a waffel head hammer. The slide was magic and bigger than expected.

Me gaining speed ready to air the thing out. It was kind of hit or miss with this one most of the group just plugged it.

After that we boogied down to the Pooper. No takers this day either, the uglyest drop I have seen on the river, but it goes. The rest of the run was cool, with some good moves and ending with the fun 20 footer at the putin of Roadside section. We were cold and done for the day. It was epic, 3 bigger drops and some really fun boogie rapids. Checked off our list for this trip, money in the bag. Hoping for the wawa to drop we went to bed dreaming for sun in the morn.

Big Banana Canyon

The Big Banana run is basicly the last 8-9km of the middle Alsaseca gorge. I had the opertunity to do this run last year with some good friends Joel, Kaite, Scott, Erin, and Raffa so I knew what to expect. When we finished the hike into the gorge and checked out the massive Big Banana fallls I reilized that there was much more water than my previous decent.

Big Banana Falls, Raffa in foreground, monsterous.

Well I thought, "I guess it should be good I don't remeber any big hole you can't walk." So on we went. The charater of rapids at the start is different from the rest of the river. Mank blouder drops similar to the Texolo, but fun and pretty nonetheless. As the gorge came into view we dropped right on in there. That place is as committing and scenic as any canyon I have ever been to. The walls are 10 feet apart and vertical for a long way above your head. Boggie water lead us to the nice 20 footer.

Raffa on the clean 20 footer, bad light, oh well you get the point.

Wam Bam thank you ma we were out of there 40 feet lower after two 20's.

Next come the most scenic place on the river in my opinion. A long class III gorge that has no end to it when you look up. It keeps going and going. That spits you out at the 40 from Burning Time that Grace got to know rather well. We walked. Then Raffa and I fired up a tripple set that is truly amazing. A few more big holes at this level put us at the Meatlocker.

We looked for our takeout eddy we used last time, because the next drop is death, it wasen't there. We almost walked it, but Raffa decided to anchor some ropes to a tree and put someone in the last chance slack water above the death hole. That way they could rope the boater in and get them out on the cliff. We fired it off one by one. Simpley one of the sweetest drops in the world. Boof-a-matic baby!!

If you hit the top boof this is what happens. You lanch the biggest boof ever, if you don't you plug like mad.

Raffa on the Meatlocker, boofing for the next boof.

After that came Pezma, a great section with some excelent drops. With more water it was more entertaining fo sho. Then we made it to Puente Tomata (Tomata Bridge) for our take out. A long and very worthy day. Raffa and I went down and scouted Second Tomata run years ago by Grace, Carrol, and Hale. Raffa wants that drop crazy kid is one fired up hommie.

Cascada Tomata

With the water holding at a high flow we were talked in to checking out Tomata Falls again by Charlie who had never seen the drop in person. I knew that this probably meant that I was going to huck it. It's kind of a bad deal to get to the actual falls because you have to pay two different people who own land on the road to park and walk down to the drop. Even thought it is only 10 peso a person, a total of 2 bucks to see that 65 foot tall beast. After a short scout of the drop and to see if this time we could hike out at the lip for second Tomata, which is a no, Charlie and I geared up and gave her some hell.

Charlie at the lip, he went for the back strokes at the top method, going very slow off the falls.

Part way down looking good still...

Charlie almost ready for impact a little out of wack.

Chuck went a bit over the bars and his skirt imploded but he was all good, soft hit, pretty dam good line, and got into the eddy and on the rock ready for me to come. I went for a different approach

Taking off of it with some good speed.

Sitting up, spotting the landing, waiting to lock it up.

If you in large this photo you can see me almost plugging totally tucked with a sick angle of entry.

I had a soft hit with no problems, I came out paddling hard and didn't even flip. Stoked on that fo-sho!!

Then we got Chuck on the rope we had already set and got him ascending up it. The video of him trying to get up the 80ish feet is priceless, so funny, but he got up with minor scrapes and tried arms. Then the set a Z-drag and lifted me out quickly. Much easier than last time with Tyler's big arse on the other end of the rope. I was stoked to finally huck this one because I had been to the drop many times before this and was either unable to run it, WCKA policy, or it was too dam high. This has got to be one of the hardest drops to stick because the lip is hard to read and the falls is very vertical hard to get that good angle but possible. I was scared I would fall over the bars but ended up greasing it like Velveeta, ewweooo!!

We then drove up the hill and rallied out a roadside run at a sick high level for s-turn and everything else. I had to run the 5km shuttle because no one would pick a half naked gringo up. Long good day filled with kayaking and beauty, cervezas for everyone back at adventurec.

Alsaseca con Mucho Jugo

We woke up after it had been raining all night to find that it was true. The river was once again high as hell. Scary for sure. We tried to run the Roadside section and got pretty much worked over by most the drops. It was fun but too scary to really relax. Charlie tried to run the huge double hole, that is big even at low flows and hurt his shoulder, taking him out for a few days. Ian tried S-turn and got ropped out of an eddy. We got out above the lower part of roadside and drove back to town feeling defeated. No pics of that day but video.

We partied hard that night all over town on a Tuesday night. Had the PoPo called on us because they were confused why Gringos were running around at 2am. The next day we got back on it. Looking for a possible first D we tried to drive up a tributary above Tomata Falls and found out that there is some shiz to be done but it's extremley hard to get to. So Roadside again.

Lj on the Putin falls.

Todd on a sweet triple set.

Monkey Styler on the 20foot

Tood on the same ramp drop.ramp.

It was better and we mad it down the whole run this time. No one gave S-turn but it was there, just ballsy. We found some new sick lines on the run so I was pretty excited about that. QAnother good day on the Seca kayaking Mecca.

Later E.G.

Adventura del Xico

El Xico... This run is a classic short run that parallels the city. It starts out with some mank but opens up into some fun drops. Two of the rapids are bigger than the rest and keep you on your toes for sure. We had some more water this time compared to last year, which made the drop cleaner and more enjoyable. Some photos of the main events of the run are here...

Lj on the slot 20 footer.

Me on the enterance of the hardest drop of the run.

Todd on the same drop shot from below.

After this run we looked at Texolo Falls. A nasty 40 to a huge shallow 90 footer and returned to Talapacoyan. On the way down the pass we ran into another huge rai storm we were sure to be faced with high water the next day.

Later E.G.

Texolo with the Crew

We drove a few hours over the almost 10,000 foot pass to Xalapa V.C. and met up with LJ and Todd who had been hanging out for a few waiting to hop on the Suburban train. Charlie caught a taxi from Vera Cruz the city and got to our hostel at midnight, the scene was set for a huckfest. 9 kayakers putting on the Texolo is kind of a scary thought but everyone was solid and I had the lines imprinted in my head from the year before. I lead and we mad bombed through tons of fun class IV rapids with sick scenery, because everyone know it's all about the scenery, Then we arrived at the box canyon and a huge horizon line.

Brooks Baldwin Running the mandatory 40-50 foot falls half way through the run.

Lj on the same drop giving the water his paddle.

After everyone bombed off the waterfall blind we regrouped with one broken paddle by Todd, got the breakdown out, and continued down stream. The next part of the canyon contains most of the steep rapids of the run. There is a sick set of boofs and a rock duck, a portage around a nasty hole, and then Jorge's rapid. We all portaged the rapid knowing what kind of cave is below the walls and to show our respect for a good friend we lost almost a year ago. There is now a memorial at the rapid with his name. Once we made it around that drop. The perfect drop came next.

This is a shot of me from last year on the perfect drop. I love it!!

This year was the same incredible for most, but if you miss your boof you plug the hell out of it and go deep. Brooks plugged and lost his paddle swimming against the wall at the bottom. Ian plugged and broke his paddle. Ok now a little boggie to the big drop.

Tyler scouting the beast from the top. I can't show any of the picture of him running it yet because magazines are interested in buying them from my brother. So they will come later.

Tyler Bradt had been talking about this waterfall since the last time he did this run over two years ago. We all arrived to the beast and scouted for awhile. It didn't take long before most of us were out and Tyler was fired up on running it. The waterfall is arouind 90 to 100 feet in hight with a truly tricky, misleading enterance. T-Bradt did a rough measerment with his 87 foot throw bag that didn't touch the pool and was not level with the lip. Huge but no one know the exact hight. We all got the video set up and saftey ready for him as he waited calmey.

Once we were all in place he came, greased the enterance and flew off the lip. I mean came mocking off a 100 footer. Kept it in control, tucked 20 feet from the pool and stomped it. His deck imploded and he lost his paddle but he rolled up high on life. It was the single burlyest, biggest, and sickest thing I have evr seen run. After some celebration we had to do the hike out of the canyon. 2km up a massive hill out of the canyon.

It hurt but everyone made it and we ate taco's at the top. Ahhh!!! got to love Mexico. The crew split Raffa, Rush, and Brooks headed to Mexico city for a TV mission and we hung out in Xico a beautiful city in the mountains ready for the next creek. Later E.G.

Tomata at Flood

La Tomata Bonita!

If your following the story at all I left you at me being scared as we drove over the bridge seeing the swollen river. Well it was, HUGE!! We all hopped out of the car and ran down to see an amazing sight. The gorge was raging high spraying out mist and leaving us in the state of ´ahhh´ like the little kid in a candy store. Even though the actual falls looked amazing, good to go, and soft, the whole picture was very scary. The water was mocking into the next set of rapids which include a nasty ledge hole, almost unrunable at these flows, and Second Tomata, absloutly hidious with water in it.

Anywho, most of us decided that it was just too dangerous to risk a possible swim off the next falls, meaning almost cirtin death, but Tyler Bradt and Raffa Ortiz saw the bright side of things. Tomata one was much better looking with this much flow.

Tyler lining it up for the middle line, off the brown monster.

Everone got ready which took forever, with the cameras, and safety then they fired it off. Brooks Baldwin was actualy hooked on to the cable which crosses the river over the falls and shot video for their upcoming flic The Source. He got some very cool unique shots of the falls.

Ty went first, pitch-poling off the middle, imploding his deck, and losing his paddle to the mucky muck down river. He did make the river left eddy where Ian waited for safety.

Raffa half way down going flat already. clenching the cheeks!!

Raffa wemt next taking the left line with too much speed and boofing out landing flat off the 65 foot falls. We were all very worried for his back, but when he gave a big hoot, we knew he was doing fine.

The two of them including Ian had to asend out of the gorge about 80 feet which took forever. The lines I have seen off of Tomata make it seem like one of the hardest drops to stick. The lip of the drop is so vertical that finding that nice angle and speed is very chalanging.

Once everyone was out of the canyon we finally left and drove over the pass to Xalapa to met the rest of the group. We all went to bed early with thoughts of committing canyons and mandatory waterfalls in our dreams.

Roadside Alsaseca

The first drop of the Roadside section of the Alsaseca.

This is just one of those rivers where everything fell into place. There is not a bad drop on this run. I think there is close to 40 cleans slide and waterfalls in this short section of river. Tyler and I routed it while Ian chilled resting his back and taking pictures. We ran the whole run in under an hour, only portaging a nasty hole that is almost impossible to boof. But truly whats impossible in a kayak. The S-turn... what a tasty piece of whitewater, unique in everyway.

Tyler and I in the mist of some sickidy boofs.

What is a day in Mexico without a cold cerveza. We just had a few too man that night, good times with the boys. Half way through the night Rush, Raffa, and Brooks showed up at a famous local bar and joined our possie. 6 strong we partyed the night away, only to wake up in the morning after massive tropical rain storms and the sight of flooding rivers. I´m scared I thought to myself as we drove over puente Tomata. The saga continues... much more to come. Later E.G.

Micos the first stokes of Mexico

Ian running the first drop of the Micos. 30 foot slide off about a 50 foot freefall, 70 total!

We arrived in Ciudad Valles after the longest drive of my life at 6:30 am. I remembered where our hotel was from last year and took advantage of the beds before thinking about kayaking. The Micos was our first stop, so we drove 30 minuets out of town to the travertine heaven and did a warm up run on the lower waterfalls before scouting the upper much much larger drop.

After walking through the jungle for awhile Ian decided to fire it up. I walked to the bottom to film and Tyler stayed up top to take a photo. Ian ran the right line, reminesant of the lines they fired up in Burning Time. He came down the slide had a great line off the lip, but at the bottom his boat slapped flat after making contact with the water. He had a sick line almost verticle, but the water was so green that it slammed his tail down before entering the water. He rolled quick and didn´t give the normal YEP and hand pump one does after running a 70 footer. The back of his boat was crushed in, he took a huge hit, but he was fine. Sore to say the least but walking and laughing as nothing had gone down.

We finished off with one more lap of the run then headed back to Valles to eat and chill in the heat of Mexico. Saludos to all Later E.G.

Tiempos Locos en Mexico

Hey everyone,
This post is just to let people know what I´m up to down here, it´s a bummer but photos are so hard to upload unless I have a way to compress them first. So right now just words, but believe me we have tons of incredable pictures to share with you.

We have been up to so much that I am just going to list out the main events that have happened.

1.Tyler and I got a sick day on the roadside section at perfect flow, while Ian rested his back from the big Micos drop.

2.It rained all night long, we then partied as hard as we could meeting Rush, Raffa, and Brooks in a bar at midnight.

3.The next day we woke up late and slow and reilized that the rivers had come up 3 to 4 feet overnight. What did we do?? Tomata Falls. Tyler and Raffa ran Tomata at an incredable flow, flooded to say the least. It was very scary because most of the water washed in to the next drop which I can say would kill a kayaker with ease at that level. Lines were marginal, a boof and a pich-poll off a 65 footer!!!

4.We met LJ, Charlie, and Tood that night in Xalapa, slept hard, and put on the Texolo the next morning. Overall an epic run we did last year with tons of sick rapids, a 50 footer, and a 90-100 footer. All of us ran the 50 with style and believe it not not Tyler stomped the biggest gnarlest drop I have ever seen, the 90 to 100 footer with a burl enterance. Sik Brd to say the least, malaria sick. We got photos and vid to post later.

5.The next day we did the Xico river with good flow and some awsome rapids near the Texolo. Buenisimo!!

6.We are back in Talapacoyan, ran roadside section at flood flow yesterday only made it to the first bridge before getting out scared and cold. Charlie got surfed in 2 huge holes in a row, Ian got roped out of the s-turn, and i got beasted in a hole as well. But all was good. Another party last night lead us back to roadside at a high flow again. This time we completed the whole run, taking new lines and running huge hole all the way to Puente Tablazo. We are looking at clear skies now hoping for the water to drop`for the middle sections.

I know what your thinking... wow crazy, but true and I wil get on the pictures as quick as I can, but the dam internet is so slow here. Makes us gringos go loco. Thats all for now but keep up to date on this blog because the content we have now is already mindbottling, you know when your mind is like trapt... in a bottle.

Mexico es lejos de Montana

We are now in Vera Cruz Mexico. It was not easy to get though. Last year I flew down here and was picked by WCKA and that was it. This year My Bro, Tyler Bradt, and myself drove the 48 hours from Bozeman MT to Ciudad Valles. The first day off the drive we hit up the classic Micos, that saw it´s tallest rarely run waterfall hucked by Ian. That thing is danerous and huge.

Now after another Mexican adventure getting to Talapacoyan we are in an internet cafe getting fired up to drop in on as many section of the famous Tomata/Alsaseca today. It is so dam hot here it is almost unbarable to sleep at night. I will post picture as much as possible, so keep up to date with your egcreekin daily fix... yalldaimen.

Things are going down here in Mexico we have an sick crew that will be joining us tonight. The like of LJ Groth, Todd Anderson, Rush Sturges, Brooks Baldwin, Raffa Ortiz, and the three of us all ready to go big.

Fall and Winter Missions+News Update

Land of dirty water and big waterfalls...AKA...Vera Cruz!!!!

Yep that's right I and a group of miss-fit pirates are headed down south to that nice state in Mexico.

LJ on da S-turn River: Alcaseca.

Chile!!!! is going about a month after I get back from Mexico so good things to come amigos "Chile es muy bueno"

Sideways picture of the old middle Palguin. Now instead of 10 to 40 to 50. It is a 10 to a 70-75 footer dam!!!! It has been changing yearly so I hope this year will be as god as last with a clean freefall and deep pool.

I will be there for awhile. I think for around 3 months. More info on that trip will come with time, as i need more money to make it work the way I want it to.

In other news I ran the Great grand glorious Gallatin for the first time today. At a strong flow of 450cfs. Good times!

Cheese my main man!!! Don't know why this is here but it's funny and entertaning.

So you don't kill yourself after reading this update, here is a sick video of Cheese dropping 60 foot Sutherland falls. This is an ill shot but it was taken with a small picture camera so the quality is very poor...not useable for a real movie. Full quality will be shown in "THE FLOW II". Buy it, or burn it off the internet and pump it outside, we keepin' it live, we keepin' it live!

So here it is with some nice commentary by David Deed, a McCall hommie who came to skook with the Daggel twins. There is a good winter of kayaking to come and some dam good pictures and video to check out.

keep it real. Later E.G.

Fear canyon of the Elaho

Checking the glaciers on the way up to the river.

Fear canyon is a fun big water run that flows in to the Squamish about 20 miles past the Ashlu river. It is a short but pretty dam sweet set of rapids. The last two drops are the biggest and best of the run.

The last rapid coming out of the box gorge. This rapid reminded me of a mini version of the "BET" of the Homathko.

Tatlow Creek

We got the first run of Tatlow creek of the year, hurray!

After a cool but long adventure on a middle gorge section of the Big Silver Creek we talked to Austin Rathman who told us that Tatlow would be prime the next day... That was enough for me to sack up get some Cafine and drive all the way to Mamquam falls that same night.

I woke up in the morning and ran down to the falls to see if it was maybe, possibley running for a second round... it wasen't. It was still a cool looking drop and amazing canyon. A little tid-bit of info about that waterfall, I talked to some local boys who were bored and went to measure the drop for fun. It was roped at "68" feet tall, not a surprise, that thing is massive.

We met the crew at the 50 50 bridge at 11:00am sharp. We went and had a quick look at the box and 50 50 falls before heading up the raod to the upper reaches of the Ashlu. Everyone who goes up to the Upper Ashlu or Tatlow should thank Austin Rathman for clearing the avalanch that covered road. Thanks man for allowing us to hit this epic run.

Anywho we hopped in a few hommies trucks to drive up the gnarly road. The first challange of the drive is the creek you drive through. It was pretty mellow if you chose the right line. Then the overgrown road for about a Km or so to the end of the driveable path. Once you arive there you get your gear on and start walking. Max Knewaiser lead the way down to the creek which is pretty hellish. The last decent to the river is the worst, this is where two people dropped their boat and lucky for them Max is a manly man and stopped them from bombing the canyon goast style.

Everyone was in one piece and ready to get some. The water is so clean that I was stright drinking massive amounts the entire run down the canyon.

The basic run down to the river is 6,6,6 to 20 footer. get your boof on baby!

Lane boofin' the 20 footer at the top.

Then the sick 25 footer that is the classic melt down drop.

Takin' it to china on the 25'er.

That leads into a fun double drop with two nice holes to get ya.

Next is the drop that got Lil Dave a while back, which was always considered to be a portage (run by some), until Lane and Myself saw nothing wrong with it and fired it up, followed by urryboady else. It is a cool S-turn slide with a big hole at the bottom.

Sick boggie rapids with great boof lead into what was know as the mandatory sieve portage. This rapid completley changed from the high water this year and is now a super fun double drop.

Lane 1st D'ing the old sieve portage, yeah buddy.

"Wall Check" 30+ footer into a wall, is next and is not scoutable. T.R.L. man Bryan Smith tried to do a crazy climbing move and fell in the eddy above it, so Max tried to look at it from above and got a little look. It was enough for me I ran it and whistled back up to the rest of um... Meaning all good bro's.

A cool boggie drop leads into the boof to 40-45 foot slide falls. Great drop!

Me right about to drop off the big slide near the end.

The gnarly tree drop is the last big one of the run. Lane and Max both fired that one, but the rest of us did the trown and go style portage.

Lane running the burl-tree-drop.

Me doing a nice misty off the trown and go.

One more little log walker leads in to a fun rally section out of the box gorge and to the take out pool. Such a beautiful place it is unbealeivable. Glaciers and tall peak surround you and the B.C. wilderness feel is strong up there.

This is an incredible run, has to be one of my favorites out there. We did it 3 days i a row getting the over all run done in under an hour. Sickness. We also ran the mone section a classic whitewater run on the Ashlu. It has two scary portages that scare off many paddlers. There is a 30 foot sea launch that is fun as well. You also get to see the carnage that the dam is having on the land and river at the end of this run, a sad thing go to therangelife.blogspot.com for more info on that subject. Thanks for reading friends...

First Decent on Big Silver

We luckily met up with some Washinton boaters Chris, Matt, and Eric about an hour up the road to Big Silver. They actualy knew where they were and what they were doing so we hopped on board with them and rallied up the hill on a scouting mission. We found some sick drops and drop up further and put on.

Class III-and IV lead our group to a very committing gorge with a possible mandatory unrunnable 30 footer at the end of it. We all scouted and all of the members of the possie but Lizzy and I dropped in. After waiting a long time and watching lots of bad moves going down. We hiked out of the canyon and got some beers to watch them do a hour+ long portage.

They did get to continue down to the big ass triple set we looked at earlyer that day. They only ran the last 15 footer leaving a sick slot drop into a 25-30 footer that is still waiting to get run. Good job on sticking in there boys. This was a long day and ended my energy on trying to finds new runs, but there is tons more to do up hear just gotta get in it.

N.Stine and Cayoosh creek

We set shuttle for the North Stine and drove high in the coastal mountains to Van Horlick creek road. The temperture was 34 degrees on the drive to the trail head and rain was starting quickly. We saw 3 bears in 10 minutes on the over grown path and my poor Subaru just made it up the road where we camped.

Basicly what ended up happening on this deboggel of a trip was Lane and I dropped out due to many factors and Lizzy and Ben were forced to follow or do a 4 day over nighter alone. All the work we put in to doing this one was all wasted, but we have all the beta for next time or for anyone who needs it.

We did end up salvaging the day with a sweet little run on Cayoosh creek, a fun IV-V run with some great scenery. We also scouted upper Cayoosh and there is a crazy tight gorge with some burl falls in it that we didn't run. More driving took us all the way back down through Hope and up Big Silver Creek for another mission.

B.C. exploration

After Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City Montana started to catch on fire and burn down. All the valleys were full of smoke and the rivers were dry. B.C. lured me back in to its grasp for a second trip of the year. Driving hours and hours a group of 4 of us met in Hope BC ready to explore. We checked out tons of creeks in the Fraser canyon, all ended up being too manky and high to be anything to speak of.

We did see this guy at the bottom of a creek that was 1000+fpm, but the hike was not worth just one drop.

After talking to a few people we reilized that the Twich boys had scouted and run most of the good stuff in this area years ago. Some thoughts on more searching went down but in the end we decided to go shoot for a mission on the North Stine.

Sutherland Falls

After the long play binge at the skooks we headed back east to Revelstoke BC. 6 hours of enjoying the beauties of the Frasier valley and high mountains, which somewhat resemble the granite of California, we arrived in the small skiing town. Early the next morning we drove to Blanket creek south of town and hucked this monster.

The main view of the falls.

I ran it twice in a row with the tuck and drop method. That's when you run the drop with a normal tuck and drop your paddle half way down, removing the chance of a broken paddle, and making the hit extra soft. The first time I ran it I did not even flip over. My second run was accented by my trusty dusty hand roll after another soft hit. Cheese stepped up and ran the drop after me and also had a nice line holding on to his paddle and plugging deep. This drop was much bigger than it appeared and taller than I thought before running it.

The view form the lip of the falls. We ran as far left as possible to stay with the main flow.

The free fall was 60-70ish feet, around the same height of Mamquam falls we ran two week prior. Not a minute after Cheese got out of the water a park host came and told us that it was illegal, I replied with a subtle "Well we just ran it three times." He was rather easy going for a figure of authority.

We have some nice video from this drop, I can't show it to y'all until later. If you know of Blanket creek there are some pretty crazy looking drops in a tight gorge, I was wondering if anyone had run it before. If not that's a good assessable first D waiting to be run. We drove stright south from here returning to the states feeling stoked for the big drop. B.C. is my new love and the potential is unlimited for the whitewater that seems to lie in every canyon. I can't wait to get back up there.
