Blown away on the Toxaway

This is a bomb creek.... south silver, big timber, and obj got nothing on this thing... and I'm a west coast biased kayaker. I was lucky to get the rains and have this thing come up to a good level for us to drop in.

Right about to put in on the first slide, smilin'.

Put in slide thing is long as...

The entire land bridge rapid, we only ran the bottom half.

Portage of 40/40.... it goes, but doesn't flow.

Pat, Drew, and Evan the Cali reunion back on the shit.

Energizer slide.... a sik sluce drop for sheezy.

Grace on the pungy stick mini-gizer.

I loved this creek and had another good day out east with some great friends and good flows.

Desoto Falls, Alabama

So this is a late update from my most recent adventures, and I have a few more to put up after as well. So after the weekend before, where we failed to get on the Desoto falls and did Toxaway, I wanted to run this beauty even more. With a text message from old John Grace and a head full of steam.... I rallied Demshitz and Pat Keller out there door and headed westward. We drove through the state of Tennessee and arrived to find it at a perfect flow. With no time to waste we geared up and set up for a new stout.

Entry falls... this thing had a ferry move above it the was scary.... then a late boof off a flake fired us off the big boy.

The deal is, the lead in rapid has many different lines to choose from... with there being only one good line off the bottom piece. So you have to decide what you want to tackle before falling off a 70 footer. We all choose to run a left line down a cool sliding falls. Pat, like always, went first. He crushed it.... made the thing look smooth and good to go. He had a very fluent and patient line off the lip and got me fired up to run on up to my boat.

Pat Keller on the crest.

I went ahead and got in my boat. Surfed across the attainment hole move and splashed some water in my face in the set up eddy. Like always on park n' hucks I quickly ask myself if I'm ready... and with no answer I dropped off the first falls. It was bigger ?(20')? than I originally thought, but went just right. I took a few strokes to put me in the good spot, turned the corner and slowly stroked the thang into my tuck. "Smooth lika butta" "Greasy like Bojangles" and "Big like jo mama" that's how I would describe Desoto Falls.

The beast from the bottom.

After the two of us went we got ready to watch the brothers Seiler run the brown until...... The Alabama park rangers showed up and threatened to put Demshitz in jail if they ran it. Pat walked across the river to deal with Johnny Law and almost got him in a whole heap of trouble. So if you do go down to the West branch of the Little river, know, It is illegal.... 007 covert oops that shit.

Kickin' it at the lipper after hucking the stout. However, we didn't run the 30 foot dam to rocks above the first tier.

So It was a good day out there running the stout. We made the long drive back to asheville with Jared and Graham pissed at the legal system and myself and Pat riding high. From the we bought a ticket and went to a sick Midnite reggae show with all the boyz. A good day indeed.

Demshitz teaser/pleaser #1

Demshitz teaser #1 from jared seiler on Vimeo.

Enjoy the little taste of what we are putting together down here in North Carolina. It has been a good trip of kayaking so far; with runs down Raven's fork, Toxaway, Desoto falls, and The Green... but now we are strapping down to do some work on the movie... NOT! it's just snowing outside so we can't go play. We will have new edits coming your way daily. Look for the Demshitz movie at LVM's site and Colorado kayak. World Premier May 2nd Cheat Fest 2009!

I gotta give a shout out to the LVM crew and the crew letting us stay at their house. (John, Will, Pat, Adam, Toby, and Chelsea)

Brave'n on the Raven's fork

Well From the Northwest, where there was great water to be had, I flew many hours all the way from the to fabled the east. Meeting up with my Demshitz hommies for the movie makings, I arrived to rain and cloudy weather so we decided to go get out there and fire it up..... Raven's fork at 18/19 inches baby!!!!

Loading desmhitz "green bitch" up to get off to the river on a rainy day in the S.E.

The put-in with a sik crew.

Anaconda rapid wit da pink helmet... I decided that I didn't need my gear, because it was not going to rain, but it did.

Me and my boy Joe Barkley.

Pat bombing the Headless slide, big hole!

Treats....

Layin'

all day....

The Raven's killed any thing I could have thought I would find out here on the east side.... We ran it fast at a high water level. Thanks to Pat, Joe, and Chan for leading us down the shitz...

The Money Drop

Now that I made it back to the land of pristine waters and stouts I was just dieing to get out there and run something big. With the rains falling and a run on the LW under my belt, I drove to the nearest drop I could think of. Rock creek falls, otherwise dubbed as the Money Drop by the EP boys. It was first D'd years ago by Trip and Lj when it was much larger. From loose unstable soil this waterfall has changed numerous times since that day. Yesterday I ran a really fast slide off a 45ish footer. The water was launching off the lip at an incredible rate so it was hard to decided how to run her... here be my line

The photos tell the story. That was my line, it was really fast and crazy... and I was stoked with the line and a smooth new stout. I landed soft and G'eed out, didn't flip, and sat ready to see my buddy from Cali send it.

Nor CAL Martin running the stout. This kid is a young, 20 year old, ripper from Arcata California who was up visiting for his spring break. He was with a killah crew that stayed at the Beaver Lodge for a few days and boated with us. Good to be back in the Hood area running all the goods of the gorge.

Montana Skiing Vid

You want to see a kayaker ski... This is a little helmet cam video of a good run at my local ski area Bridger Bowl. This was my second day out this season. I used to give her much harder, but I can't hurt my fragil bones before I get out on the river again.

Watch this....
I'm now driving to Hood river tomorrow to get on some goods.

Last Day in Chile

One last kayaking day in Chile for the year.... Middle Fuy what else is there to say man. This was my forth time down this canyon this year. Which means 4 runs off a perfect 40-50 footer. Good practice for whats to come soon. Same deal as last year when Rodrigo LJ and myself hucked meat on the 18th of March. This day was the 27th of Febuary I believe... now I'm in Santiago chilling out with some good boys and girls ready to return back to a economic depression and unemployment. No stoked to be making back to the old USA just in time for some melt off to start happening in the Hood river area... hint hint! thats where i'm heading.

enjoy the shots of Me and Kiwi Steve......

see everyone on the river this coming season.....

Futafest 2009

Futafest.... the first ever celebration of this incredible famous whitewater meca. With all that has happened in Patagonia with in last year some local kayakers, companies, and rafters conjoined forces and decided it was time to organize an event to help this amazing place. Therefore Futafest was born. The story is very long so I wont get too deep in to it. We arrived to find the futa at a great level from many days of rain so we surfed the hell out of Pistola and played on the bridge to bridge for two days. Then boom!!!! The volcano that caused all the problem last april went off again. Check the photos it was a crazy expirience for sure. We fired it up a nice run in the ash and alomst left back to Pucon due to the shear amount of ash on the ground. Everyone had a meeting and no ash fell down the valley so Futafest went on....

There was three different main events of the weekend.... first a boatercross through Toro and Mundaca rapids. There was three points where you had to get to and touch with your hand not anything else. There was 5 heats of 5 and the top one made it to the finals. Ian, Myself, Josh Viejo, Ben Luck, and Carlos from Chile won our heats and then raced in the final heat.

The Downriver race was a mass start at a big beach above the bridge starting out of your kayak. Everyone ran down to the boats and slapped their skirts on and took off. No real rules.

The freestyle comp was not really judged by tricks or rides but only who could get the most beatdown in front of a huge crowd of fired up people... the person who got the people to yelling, scream, and cheer the loudest won.

Results:

boatercross:
1. Evan Garcia
2. Ian Garcia
3. Josh Lawry

downriver:
1. Evan Garcia
2. Sergio Vidal
3. Jorge (Costa Rica) sorry

Freestyle:
1. John Folbright

Enjoy some shots of the festival....

A little gathering at the takeout after the downriver race.

Getting ready to go put on the Inferno canyon while ash still fell from the sky... the hospital gave out masks to all the townsfolk and the yakers.

Ian and Nico in the ashy futaleufu only a few hours after the volanco erupted.

The Boatercross race through the big part of Mundaca rapid.

The down river awards, Me with Jorge and Sergio Vidal after the punishing 9 km race of the bridge to bridge.

Futa! Futa! everyone sending out the good vibes to all the dam companies who want to stop the free flow of the futa.

A good group of guys partying down at Cara Del Indio for the Saturday night festivies.

Raft carnage is the best.

Team Cascada getting punished in Mundaca.

A hippy firing up the poi at the party.

The Asado of 4 lambs and a fat chancho.

The finishing cerimonies at Cara del Indio... Thanks a bunch to Mitch and John Clark for putting the enite event together and making this great time happen.

Thanks to everyone who showed up and made this event possible... I hope next year even more people show up to paddle and enjoy the amazing Futa. Trust me its more than worth the trip.

Middle Fuy... bend on the biggins

Well I don't have any photos from the Futa because my computer died with all of my old shots from his trip on it... so i'm not too stoked about that. But with luck my zorito Nicolas has a camera and computer for me to update the old blog once again.

So after a nice trip with good flows in Futa we headed back up north to Bariloche with a huge celbratiopn and a double lap on the cascada alerces. With nice flow and a huge crowd of Argentinians watching all of us. From there we knew the levels were epicly low in Pucon, which means one thing...... Middle FUY!!!!

I will make a long good story short and sweet.... with not much water in the area our group of kayaking bandoleros have been living it up with the night life options that Puocn offers. Along with that we hit the middle fuy gorge 3 times now. It has a few fun boogie rapids and then it goes rictor with two portages that are runnable but very marginal... into the main drop of the run. It starts with a hard 20 foot sealanch into a nice pool from there you float off the cream of the crop.... One of the best 40-50 foot drops of all time. With all the water of the Fuy it's rolling and soft as it gets. The run out is in a sick gorge with read and run class 4-5 boulder rapids with cusion. A beautiful place for sure... classic as it gets.

enjoy the shots of the good times...

Miguel, Rodrigo, and Nico all chilling after the main course of the Huilo Huilo gorge.

La puma from the bottom... Rodrigo looking very small by the monster.

Jared rocking a solid line off the big boy.

Ian running the nicest drop in all of the land... so soft so smooth. Dejalo ir Dejalo fluir!

Los Wachos mas hombre mas guapo del Pucon!

Oyo de Culo

So sorry for the lack of updates on the site the last 2 weeks.... I have been busy and lazy for sure. But once again egcreekin will rise up and conquer the internet world of kayak porn.

So I left everyone at the Manso gorge afer we fired up the hug stout in there. That night we ate some very bad pizza and drove deep in the mountains to a beautiful valley where we settled for the night. The following morning we hiked out asses off and got in to the goods at about 12 pm.... it wasn't too bad.

From there we enjoyed one of the most classic pieces of whitewater in the area no doubt. a cool double drop, sliding 40, 10 to 30, slide, gorge, 15 to 40ish, and a bunch of mank out the bottom. The level was way lower than my last time in there but it was well worth the sweat and tears to get in there again. Enjoy a few shots of the day from Pat Rogers......

Ricky falling out of the 40 foot ojo de culo gorge.

T.M. Ben running the split falls without the entry due to lack of water.

The ojo has mad game possibly one of the most beautiful and greatest rivers in the world.

We then went to Futa for a week+ stay tuned for a nice upadte on that as well...
