Demshitz Drop...

DEMSHITZ!!!!! It is a word... a life style... and as of last year... A sick ass waterfall outside Pucon Chile. Jared Seiler logged the first descent in November last season, shortly followed by three more of us. Along with the epic technical falls you commit yourself to running three more big drops in a spectacular gorge. It just so happens that we laid some treats on the upper run two days ago, found a low level, meaning the lower canyon was prime... and that fact that I'm hungry big some big hard whitewater right now... what were we to do?

"The the run shit" as Rodrigo, my best chilean paddling partner would say... So with my buen amigo back in town, and the right level, we got in there. This could be a top 10 drop of all time for me... It has some tight must make moves above a waterfall that you can't screw the pouch on. So with a quick scout and my brothers in place I tested the waters.

A sick shot of me on the crux boof.

Sending it...

Right about to take a little bounce...

Me going into the sweet spot that sets you up real nice for a good angle of entry.

My line went well. I stayed very loose going down the falls because I knew that there was gonna be a hit on rock at some point. With a small bounce I faded a left stroke and tucked up for a nice impact at the base. Felt good to be back in the zone and hitting my line on such a tough drop. Ian and Nate decided to walk before hand, but Rodrigo was ready to go...

Rodrigo with a slightly different line on the lip.

Rodrigo starting the fall and about to connect....

This photo looks scary, but it was actually a pretty sweet line. He took a hit and hurt his ribs in the landing.

I was stoked to be back in the water with Rodrigo, so with a few "yehaaaws!" and "yips!" The other brothers seal lanched into the pool and we all dropped in the box. It was lower than last time I was in there... In my mind the rapids were more mank and hard to style out. But with good lines and enjoying the hell out of the beauty of the Nevados we all made it down stream and back to the truck with smiles on our faces. Here is documentation of our descent...

El Diablito... This rapid is tough, just ask Ian.

The top if a good double stager... I love this set.

Nate finishes out the bottom half of the same drop.

Rodrigo with some hurt ribs... making it to the point of freedom.

So there it is the second stout of chile trip 2010 all good, all done, treats laid. Now we are looking to get some Desahue and Puesco for today. Something with some strong strokes get me back in shape...

Entre Saltos: Garganta del Diablo

Now in Chile and stoked to be back to a regiment of paddling we got it started off right with a quick stop off at the Rio Claro home if the Siete Tazas... We did not do the classic run though. We went up stream to drop into some very dramatic canyons with big waterfalls. You may recognize this drop from a Pyranha add with Gerd the Spanish kid... who got the first D 3 years ago. So the first day we did the 22 Saltos (waterfalls) and left it at that... I have an update for the run later because Ian has the photos on a dead camera. So this is what we did Day 3 in Chile.....

We woke up to some snow on the ground... it's not quite summer here.

Ian leading us down into the meat of the canyon.

Pali... a good chilean kayaker buddy boofing into the point of commitment

Pangal bringing some freestyle downriver....

What we came for.... It was scary looking from the pool.

Me running first... One of the coolest feelings to this day in my kayak.

Nico Buenaventura... Demshitz Chile team running brown.

Nate-dog.... back with me creeking it up...

And completing the Garcia trio Ian taking up the rear....

The next drop... going into the underworld canyon. From there down is the most scary place you could find yourself in a kayak. But it all goes and we all had a good time enjoying the views and drops.

Hope you like the beautiful photos by Xavier...

Whitewater River, N.C.

So as soon as I made the cross country journey from Bozeman MT to Johnson City TN with my lady... It started to rain. With a few days after Gauleyfest to kayak I headed out of town to Asheville to get on some brown. I met up with a good buddy Sam Morgan for a run down the Whitewater river... Without any beta we set off for a day on the water.

The slide leading to the Mini-gorge.

The first... and the crux of the gorge in my mind.

Myself on the exit falls... it was smooth.

This is the big slide of the run... I scouted it for the group. There was a piece of wood hanging out in to the pool between drops that I got stuck on. It was alright because it was shallow and I just got out on the log to self rescue my boat. Big drop for sure.

We ran into another group of south easterners... Toby back at it with a nice boof.

It was a day full of good whitewater on the " "... I got an accidental first descent on the big slide under the logs into the Mini-gorge... Pat told me it was very probable that it was a first, because there used to be more logs blocking the route. We had the most prettiest shuttle bunny in the world at the take out... remedy's and we were off to the races and back to the real world once again... I had to get ready for my big trip to Chile. Yep it's that time of year.

Green Truss Highlights 2009 Film

The Green Truss is the true Beaver Lodge back yard run and is held close to our hearts. At flows from 2-5 feet on the bridge scale it is one of the best runs in the US. Still a bit inferior to the LWS in my opinion, it has its +'s, but Treats are still found in abundance. Enjoy some sick video shots I got this summer and spring.

Rodrigo's Demshitz party in Europa...

If you read my blog.... you will know that I have been lazy as of lately... sorry to all you guys out there trying to see some kayaking. I have been going out on the river damn near everyday but in a 13 foot inflateabel raft not my Jefe Grande. I have made it out on some good days though and I'm am in the mist of a computer disaster right now so I have been off the blogger wagon. I will drop this news on you guys and then go off and make a nice edit of some of this summers fun times.

Rodrigo Tushner... our Chilean compadre, kayaking master in his own right, is over in his second home of Italy killing it as normal.

Rodrigo once told me that there are two rivers that feed the main stream they raft in this valley... no one will kayak these class V rivers with him... and call him crazy for even thinking of doing them so he goes solo.... my man.

running the shit.

Anyway he went off and did a good good thing.... A demshitz premiere party in his home town overe there. It looked like htis with lots of people showing up enjoying a plethora of running big drops and having good times along the way.

Looks like some good times over there in Italy.... It's only a month until I go to Chile once again and start my onslaught of kayaking once again. I couldn't be more stoked to go anywhere else....

Once I get a computer I will toss up a sick video from this summer.

7/17/09 L-Dub

So as the summer moves along and the weather keeps getting warmer daily... there is still one place where we can hide from this cruel world. The same old O.G. river we do all the time... But there is nothing to complain about. When thinking of favorite river around the world. You just can't even try and compare them to this gem. It's just not fair.

So what we did was lay some on um'.... what you ask? Treats I say.

The Coug boofing sackers ledge... let it go let it flow.

The Skippler chillin' below S-turn.... what is life all about.

Wilie running back ender... my man.

Lj running the Bowie's hotel hole... getting in to the good shiiiat.

Steeze is an ease when flowin' with deeze.

Myself running some spirit falls... bad photo good place to be.

Big cities and bright lights... short days and long nights... no stress and no strife... I'm high off living the life. NF Payette, then I'm off to SLC for some O.R. show madness.

The 9 to 5 Husum falls rafting with the Ball Stars.

Ohanapecosh River, Silver Falls

After a sick/epic day on the Cispus with good juice flow we camped out at the take out of that run readying us for another day out in WA. Our first choice was the Clear fork of the Cowlitz, which was looking low and full of wood. Then with a little fear and starry stout gleam we drove back to Silver Falls only a few short minutes up the road.

Lower flows had me pumped and having another fired up paddler with me made my decision easy.... TO STOUT.

My second lap of Silver falls this summer. Lower flows, but it still dropped as much as ever.

Joining me for this stout, My huckfest amigo Jared Seiler. Buy Demshitz the movie Silver falls is a big full on drop.

Then we went down stream and got on a super beautiful class fun run of the Ohane. With perfectly clear waters and greats boofs, it was a true classic.

All the brown going down these days.

More and more y'all keep it up this summer out there on your local rivers and creeks. Get outside and in your boat I command you!!!!
